King Corn's narrative begins as the two best friends, facing the news that their generation may be the first in American history to have a lower life expectancy than their parents, move to Iowa to see the food system from the ground up. The film takes its audience deep into America's industrial kitchen, trailing Curt and Ian over the course of a growing season and beyond.

With the help of curmudgeonly farmers, powerful pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and giant combines, the experiment goes according to plan as they plant and grow 10,000 pounds of food. The experience offers two kids from the suburbs a chance to drive huge farm equipment and sample small town life, but it also poses deep questions about common practices on today's farm. And when Ian and Curt attempt to follow their crop's eventual fate, the questions only multiply.

With wry humor and dogged perseverance, they discover that the American diet has become radically transformed by corn in the last thirty years, and that over-production of corn is the prime suspect in the national nutritional crisis. The crop fast-fattens beef cattle, lends its oils to fried fast-foods, and is transformed into the high-fructose corn sweetener in nearly every soda. By the time Curt and Ian are ready to harvest, they are armed with the truth about their crop and are troubled by the ramifications of their own one-acre farm.

King Corn's release comes at an auspicious time: the very moment when national debate about the 2007 Farm Bill is reaching its height. This is Congress' chance to decide whether cheap corn and subsidized fast-food will continue getting a flood of taxpayer support. With childhood obesity at an all-time high in the U.S., the urgency of this debate is more intense than ever.

The film features bestselling author Michael Pollan of The Omnivore's Dilemma, and an original soundtrack by the New York folk-punk trio The WoWz, with two-time Grammy nominee Bo Ramsey.
